A holiday campaign to help women who are in need of housing supports is ramping up its efforts in this province.

Local coordinator Caitlin Lyall says The Shoebox Project is a registered charity with a mission of lifting up women who are homeless, or are at risk of becoming homeless.

Lyall says they fill up shoeboxes with essential items such as toothbrushes, shampoo, and mittens, as well as self care and expression items such as journals.

She says they also include a special message for each recipient.

Each package includes a handwritten note with an uplifting message from the person who donated it. Lyall says they have partnered with 12 local shelters and agencies to distribute the shoeboxes.

She explains that about 400 packages are needed this year, and they are encouraging businesses, organizations, and people to get involved.
