With NL's High Diabetes Rates, PC's Share that Continuous Glucose Monitoring Program is Long Overdue

A continuous glucose monitoring pilot program is a positive step forward, but long overdue, according to the PCs.

Paul Dinn, MHA for Topsail-Paradise, shared that the CGM pilot program is welcomed, but he questions how long before a fully realized program will be available.

Dinn notes that, at 35 per cent, Newfoundlanders and Labradorians have some of the highest rates of diabetes in the country, and that while the pilot program is a positive step forward, he worries that it may take years for a wider program to be available to the people of the province.

He urges the Health Minister to recognize the urgency of the situation, adding that the Health Accord makes it clear that a healthy population means fewer demands on the already strained healthcare system.
