A recent BDO survey shows that nearly two-thirds of Atlantic Canadians prefer not to talk about their financial issues, and that number rises dramatically to 89 per cent among those already struggling with debt.
President of Licensed Insolvency Trustee BDO, and host of Your Money on VOCM, Nancy Snedden, says despite the pressures caused by inflation and high interest rates, people still blame themselves when facing financial difficulties.
“It’s not your fault, and you’re certainly not alone,” says Snedden. “We have record levels of insolvency rates in this country…we have record levels of increased debt,” she says and “the sooner you talk to someone to get a solution…the better you’ll be.”
