Firefighters remain at the scene mopping up hotspots following a major fire in the capital city’s downtown.
The fire started in a home at the bottom of Lime Street around 7:45 a.m. this morning and spread to a nearby multi-unit structure.
There were no injuries.
The fire caused a number of road closures in and around the area of Lime, Cabot and Livingstone streets.
Deputy Fire Chief Roger Hounsell told reporters this morning that they were met by heavy flame when they arrived on the scene so we laid an attack line initially, and started to do an interior attack…we got so far but the fire was too heavy, so we had to come out and start to do a defensive attack on the fire.”
