A man who has been described as a high-risk sexual offender is back in jail for another alleged offence earlier this week.
Sixty-three year-old Dennis Murphy was arrested in St. John’s yesterday.
RNC responded to a report of sexual violence overnight Monday into Tuesday in a residential area downtown in which a 31-year-old woman suffered physical injuries.
Police have charged Murphy with sexual assault causing bodily harm, forcible confinement and failure to comply with court orders. He was held to appear in court.
In 2019, the Constabulary issued a public warning that Murphy, who had just completed a sentence in Dorchester for sex offences against young females under the age of 18, was living in the metro region, noting that they had reasonable grounds to believe Murphy would commit another sexual offence.
In the fall of 2020, Murphy was accused of an assault in Paradise, and in June of this year, police confirm that Murphy was charged with uttering threats and multiple breaches of court orders.
He has previously been convicted of supplying young girls with booze and drugs before forcing them to have sex.
