The outgoing Lieutenant Governor is reflecting on her time in the position.
Judy Foote made her final address to the Rotary Club of St. John’s yesterday, ahead of today’s installation of the new Lieutenant Governor, Joan Marie Aylward.
Foote says when she first entered the position over five years ago, she wanted to highlight mental health and reconciliation with Indigenous groups, which came in the form of the Wellness Wednesday events and the Heart Garden. Another priority, she says, was making Government House part of the community and a destination.
Now that she is moving on, Foote says she is proud of the work she has done.
Foote says she is content in that she accomplished everything she set out to do in the role. She’s happy that people feel comfortable to walk the grounds of Government House freely.
Meanwhile, Newfoundland and Labrador’s new Lieutenant Governor will be installed into the position today.
Former Liberal cabinet minister and former Nurses Union president Joan Marie Aylward will replace outgoing Lieutenant Governor Judy Foote.
A ceremony is scheduled to take place inside the House of Assembly this morning at 11:30 a,m,
