MUN Lecturers' Union Alarmed By Findings of AG Report

(Allison Coffin)

The Lecturers’ Union at Memorial University is “gobsmacked” by the Auditor General’s report on spending at MUN, released publicly last week.

Spokesperson Alison Coffin says the administrative bloat uncovered by the report is alarming considering the “huge difference” between senior administrators’ working conditions and those of per course instructors.

Coffin points to the employee service award dinner which cost close to $7,000 compared to a per course instructor’s salary, which is in the range of $5,000 to $5,875 per course.

She says the cost of that one dinner could have paid a union member to teach 104 students an economics course with “money left over to get everyone a 2-piece fish and chips.”
