A significant collection, intrinsic to the history of Newfoundland, and Harbour Grace in particular, is up for auction.
Chris O’Dea of O’Dea’s Realty and Auction Room is partnering with Bartlett’s Auctions to present what is being called the “outstanding” collection of items from the estate of the late Thomas Munn.
Many of the contents of the auction have connections to Harbour Grace, where John Munn, who worked with Baine Johnson, settled after emigrating from Rothesay in Scotland.
Munn partnered with Captain William Punton and established Munn and Punton in 1833. After Punton’s passing the company evolved into Munn and Company.
Also included in the collection are items connected to the Munden family of Brigus who married into the Munn family.
Other contents are connected to James C. Baird, the patriarch another prominent Newfoundland merchant family.
