Wakeham Calls for Debate of Any Potential Upper Churchill Contract Renegotiations With Quebec

The provincial Opposition is asking for a commitment from government that any possible deal reached with Quebec on a renegotiated Upper Churchill contract is debated in the House of Assembly before it is ratified.

Opposition Leader Tony Wakeham was referencing a recent article in All Newfoundland.com.

Deputy Premier Siobhan Coady wouldn’t say much about the status of talks except to say that they are “productive.”

“Our own premier has finally broken his silence,” says Wakeham.

Coady would only say that it is positive that the government of Quebec has approached Newfoundland and Labrador on the Upper Churchill. “We think we are in a good negotiating position,” says Coady.
